Functional medicine is a personalized and integrative approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease. It considers the whole person, including lifestyle, environment, and genetics, to create a customized plan for optimal health, while conventional medicine typically focuses on diagnosing and treating symptoms with medication or surgery.
During your consultation, we will conduct a thorough review of your health history, lifestyle, and current health concerns. We also ask to see any recent lab work to gather more information. This will help us understand what further testing may need done and help us create a personalized treatment plan if warranted.
We address a wide range of women's health issues, including nutritional deficiencies, inflammation food sensitivities/allergies, adrenal glands, thyroid hormones, sex hormones, gut health, genetics, sleep problems, and mental well being.
Insurance does not cover most functional testing for several reasons. These tests may not be considered medically necessary by insurers, who often focus on diagnostics essential for treatment. Functional tests can also be viewed as preventive, which are typically not covered. We do accept HSA/FSA as well as many other payment options.
Most of the testing can be done from your home besides the blood work. You will have to go to a labcorp location for the blood draw. Follow this link to find a labcorp location near you.
Once our lab receives your specimen it typically takes 7-10 business days to receive results. We ask for an additional 2-5 days to interpret your results and finalize your protocol.
Yes, a 12 hour fast is necessary for most of the blood draws unless told otherwise. You will also need to avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours (walking is allowed).
Yes, you will be able to have the test performed at your earliest convenience.
If you have an irregular cycle, the best way to get accurate results is to test your ovulation levels daily. Once you get a positive test stop collecting and wait 5-7 days then you can test your hormone levels. If you do not receive a positive ovulation test after 30 days, have the test performed as soon as possible (within 2-3 days).
Post-menopausal hormone testing is important for several reasons. For those on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), testing ensures that hormone levels remain optimal and helps adjust dosages if needed. Since estrogen is crucial for maintaining bone density, testing can also assess the risk of osteoporosis and guide interventions to protect bone health. Additionally, hormone testing can help manage ongoing symptoms like hot flashes and mood changes by identifying any imbalances. It can differentiate between menopause-related symptoms and those caused by thyroid issues, as thyroid problems can mimic menopausal symptoms. Understanding hormone levels also contributes to a personalized healthcare approach, optimizing overall well-being by addressing specific concerns related to weight, metabolism, and cardiovascular health.
We use a comprehensive approach to identify hormonal imbalances through detailed testing. Our treatment plans often include dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, supplements, and other natural therapies to restore balance.

In managing chronic health issues, it's crucial for your doctor to be a diligent investigator. The more comprehensive the understanding of your case, the better the chances of resolving your health concerns. We dedicate considerable time to this investigation to ensure all aspects are addressed.
Our high success rate reflects our careful approach. However, if you’re not progressing as expected despite following our recommendations, further investigation may be necessary. This might involve additional testing, retesting, or referrals to other specialists to pinpoint any underlying issues and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.
